What to expect from the Jaguars training camp and OTA's

The biggest storyline of the Jaguars offseason will of course be superstar wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter. Travis won the Heisman playing both wide receiver and corner, and is expected to be the hybrid player he was in college, but not 100% on both sides.

The expectation is that Travis will play primarily wide receiver, with some reps at corner, meaning that he will likely get the majority of his reps at wide receiver during the offseason. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence spent most of the offseason rehabbing shoulder surgery from an injury he suffered in week 9 against the Eagles, so his timing will likely be a bit shaky to start. Trevor and Travis will have to work hard to get their chemistry ready for the season.

Jarrion Jones is a player to look out for, as he will be adjusting to playing full time corner, while newly signed cornerback Jourdan Lewis will take his spot inside. Jones has expressed desire to play his natural position since the 2024 season. "Last season, when I was playing all 100% nickel, I was asking them like, can I go play corner? That's what I play," said Jones. His wish was granted, and now we will see how he adjusts with his natural position as well as a new playbook.

Parker Washington and Dyami Brown will be competing for the 3rd receiver spot on the depth chart. Gabe Davis was released in early May, and Christian Kirk was traded to the Texans, leaving this spot available. Both players do not have eye popping statisticsn but played well in their limited roles. With BTJ and Travis Hunter garnering the defenses attention, this will open things up for the two playmakers, and should be a fun competition to watch this summer.

Arik Armstead in 2024 was a letdown to say the least, recording just two sacks, with 14 weeks between them. A big reason for this was the inexplicable coaching decision to have him play defensive end. Now in the 2025 season, he will be kicked back inside at his natural position, much like Jarrion Jones. The Jaguars pass rush was non-existent outside of Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen in 2024, so any prescence from Armstead will be highlighted.

Lastly, the running back room as a whole is on notice, with nobody's job being safe. Etienne has slipped massively since his 2022 campaign and is in a contract year, and Tank Bigsby, who had an abysmal rookie season, started off the 2024 season strong, but quickly declined soon after. The Jaguars selected Bhaysul Tuten in the 4th round of the 2025 draft. He ran the fasted 40 yard dash at the combine and averaged 6.3 yards per carry and had 15 touchdowns in his final season of college.

Any of these players could be the week 1 starter, or be off the team in a year, depending on how things shake up, so the competition level will be high this summer with jobs on the line. With a new system and repaired offensive line, it will be interesting to see who claims the starting spot.
